JazzTimes 2005 Holiday Subscription Offer
This piece I am particularly proud of simply because I had a hand in the creative from conception to completion. Everything from the digital photography involved, writing copy, designing the layout of the order form, and making sure the mailer side was to USPS specs. Coordinated with our printer as there were two versions of the same piece (one version would be bound into the magazine while the other would be a polybag insert). Each version also had to be source coded differently to accurately track performance.Designed with QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop and a Sony Cybershot 7.2 Megapixel Camera.

JazzTimes Back Issues Ordering Page
After more than 35 years in publication, JazzTimes has an extensive back issue catalog. Once the internet became commonplace, every back issue could be advertized and sold through our online store, but that didn't address customers that did not have a computer. This wasn't uncommon due to the older Jazz audience we had. Therefore, I created an ad that could show several years worth at once.Created using QuarkXPress and Adobe Photshop.

Egg Tempera Illustration #1
Egg Tempera is a painting technique that was used by nearly every painter of the Italian Renaissance before the year 1500 CE. A stiff board would be coated with a layer of rabbit skin glue and several layers of gesso. Each layer of gesso would be sanded to created a very smooth surface.Mixing dry pigment with one part water and one part egg yolk, paint would be applied to the dry gesso board where each stroke would dry almost immediately. Paint is somewhat translucent, so many layers are needed to create an opaque area. A small area could account for several hours of work.
This example is a detail of a larger work.

Mock DVD Cover
A friend of mine had written a screenplay for a horror film and it inspired me to design this cover and present it to him. The design was modelled after the popular Criterion Collection line of DVD's which are released by Janus Films.Designed with Adobe Illustraor and Adobe Photoshop.

JazzTimes Free Issue Offer "Blow-In" Card
This blow-in card was a hybrid of an earlier direct mail piece and promoted a similar offer. This card was designed specifically to be inserted into jazz festival programs and other music related catalogs. It was also sent to and displayed in many jazz clubs across the USA. In order to track the performance of each card, cards were printed in lots in various quantities and each lot was issued a unique source code.Designed using QuarkXPress and Adobe Photoshop.
